Position	PKG test lab manager
Job Description	Reporting Relationships: Direct report to Vice President Quality Assurance APAC Direct reports Packaging Testing Analysts Principal Objectives: 1.Manage the Packaging Lab personnel and coordinate the testing activities of the lab. 2.Work independently utilizing standard test procedures to perform physical and functional evaluations and tests of packaging components and materials. 3.Interpret and approve test results and advise the global packaging groups of the suitability of tested components for their intended use. 4.Recommend changes necessary to materials, construction and dimensions to make packaging components approvable. 5.Conduct problem solving experiments to deal with manufacturing, quality, and functional issues. 6.Identify and propose opportunities for changes to testing methods to increase efficienty and reliability. 7.Stay up to date on new developments in package testing and participate in or lead setting up new tests for innovative packaging. 8.Lead certification process of packaging suppliers for package testing in APAC. Accountabilities: 1.Manages lab personnel to establish testing priorities, ensures the use of the appropriate testing technique and timely test completion. 2.Review personnel performance, conduct training, and provide guidance as required to the lab personnel. 3.Participate in implementing the Quality Assurance Department’s Goals and contribute to the accomplishment of the group’s Mission. 4.Reflect Estee Lauder’s Corporate Vision in all business activities. 5.Determine an appropriate method for testing of various packaging materials. Justify the use of any given method, as required 6.Independently performs technical evaluation for seal, weight loss, compatibility, fill level, function, etc., using predetermined standard procedures to achieve and maintain high quality package performance. 7.Use technical knowledge, gained through practical experience and formal education to interpret test results. 8.Determine whether additional testing is required for a given unit of packaging material. 9.Investigate and report on strengths and weaknesses of new and innovative packaging material. 10.Approve and report results, when needed present findings to the management group and/or make package change recommendations to management and/or the Package Development team. 11.Set up and lead a certification program of packaging suppliers in the APAC region for performing package testing following the global Estee Lauder procedures. 12.Stay in close contact with the package testing lab in the US and assure a smooth logistical handling of and good control over testing materials. 13.Perform other duties, as assigned and required. Background: Education A Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering from an accredited University is required Work Experience 5+ years of relevant experience is preferred Required Background Characteristics The job requires strong communication, managerial and coaching skills. The candidate must be computer proficient in MS Access, MS Excel, and MS Word. The candidate must be fluent in both oral and written English. Knowledge of other languages (Cantonese, Japanese) is a plus. Personal Characteristics: The candidiate must have the right personality to be a respected and enthusiastic leader, and be able to deal with situations of stress. The candidate is open-minded, seeking continuous learning opportunities and creative solutions, keeping an eye on regulatory and other developments in cosmetics packaging, and motivating others to do the same. The candidate is a good communicator and manages to retain constructive working relationships with the various stakeholders in the organisation, even in situations of professional disagreement. The lab manager must be able to build and maintain a network of people across relevant departments in the organisation that allow him to understand the needs of the business and be able to respond to it.
